The celebration kicked off with the annual Lion Dance, a traditional performance in which dancers don a lion costume and perform acrobatic feats to the beat of drums and cymbals. This parade is even more lively than activities in China. The Lion Dance is believed to bring good luck and fortune for the coming year.
An international student, Clara Teng, from China, says: "Because I'm from Shanghai. Usually, in the big cities, there is not much performance during the Chinese New Year."
Meanwhile, every Lunar New Year celebration is complete with a feast, and Boston Chinatown boasts some of the best Chinese cuisines in the city. Restaurants and food vendors offer special menus featuring traditional dishes such as dumplings, hot pots, and whole-roasted ducks.
All of these activities also attract people from different race groups. Bjorn, tourism to Bostom Chinatown, says: "I know China they have a lot of parades like this. It was like dragons and everything. I'm guessing it should go back for a couple of thousand years."
