Here in Massachusetts, a new COVID variant has dominated the infected people. According to the Boston Globe, The Broad Institute of MIT and Harvard reported the new Omicron subvariant BQ.1.1 accounted for thirty-nine percent of the cases. During the past few months, the Massachusetts government has been promoting vaccination through various methods to protect people further. Johns Hopkins University has stopped counting the number of cases in Massachusetts since September 21st, 2022, and the confirmed cases have stopped at 2,109,719. The statistics work from The COVID Tracking Project ended on March 7th, 2021, with the death confirmed in 16085 in Massachusetts.

The US’s top infectious disease expert, Dr. Anthony Fauci, says The US is “certainly still in the middle of the COVID-19 Pandemic at the White House. He told the press, "As a public health official, I don’t want to see anyone suffer and die from Covid. I don’t care if you’re a far-right Republican or a far-left Democrat, everybody deserves to have the safety of good public health, and that’s not happening. In August, Fauci announced he would retire from the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases and advise the White House’s chief medical advisor at the end of the year. He insisted on encouraging people to be vaccinated. “I hope to be remembered for what I’ve tried to do, just bring science and medicine and public health principles to severe crises we’ve had. As I’ve said before, I’ve given it everything I have to do that.”

“ I think somehow politics will relate to the pandemic. It is a very interesting phenomenon because, in my opinion, health always comes first. I also think this problem exists not only in Massachusetts or the United States but also in China and other countries,” Xinting Bu, a sophomore at Emerson College, said to the journalist, “I don’t like people’s opinions about vaccination or science will be affected by their political positions. This will make the whole world becomes more difficult to overcome the pandemic. I kind of feel disappointed when people have to deal with politics first, then they can get help if they have Covid. People’s health should always be the first, and I think the pandemic can also reflect the problems of a lot of governments.”

In Massachusetts, before the end of the statistics, the trend kept increasing in terms of the number of infected people, especially between November 2020 and March 2021. The statistics indicate that people’s opinions about Covid. The constant infected cases before October 2020 make people less vigilant of Covid. Moreover, the weather is also an element that can affect the infected cases. Cold weather and holidays will make more people stay in indoors. Massachusetts is one of the highest vaccination rates per capita in the country. However, the new COVID variant can still be that of the state. As Thanksgiving and Christmas are coming, the trend may follow last year, which means there may be a solid increasing start from November.

“After experiencing three years of the COVID pandemic, I think my opinions about Covid-19 have changed. Maybe at the beginning of the pandemic, I treated this situation seriously, and the anxiety I had made me lose a lot of opportunities for my work and academic study. However, for now, I think this virus may accompany us for the rest of life, and people have to move on because time does not wait for us. I think it is very necessary for us to find a way to live with the virus, and most importantly, we believe in science.” Xinting Bu said.

From the statistics, we may still face serious challenges caused by a new virus in the future. We may experience some trends this year, but it is also a chance to learn how to live with viruses and prioritize our health.
